Course Description

You'll learn a variety of tricks and techniques you can implement to create and automate Excel charts in this live webcast presented by Excel expert David Ringstrom, CPA.

David demonstrates how to use several helpful Excel features, including the Recommended Charts feature, the Sparkline feature, the PivotChart feature, and others. He also explains how to avoid repetitive formatting, create self-updating chart titles, and use clip art to make your charts more dynamic.

In addition, you'll learn: how interface changes made in Excel 2013 and 2016 have simplified chart tasks, how to use the PivotChart feature to summarize complex data, how the SUMIF function can summarize data based on a single criterion, and more.

David demonstrates techniques by using the version of Excel in use by the majority of attendees for this presentation. Typically, this means he teaches from Excel 2010 or 2013, but his handouts identify differences in Excel 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016 when needed. His webcasts are fast-paced, and attendees often are surprised at the amount of ground he covers in a session. He welcomes participants' questions, so come ready to pick his brain. David's detailed handouts, with numbered steps, serve as reference material you can utilize going forward. He also provides an Excel workbook that includes a majority of the examples he uses to demonstrate techniques during the presentation.

Topics Typically Covered:
  • Compare user interface changes in Excel 2013 and 2016 that have vastly simplified chart-related tasks.
  • Create self-updating chart titles that are linked to formulas within a worksheet cell.
  • Enliven your charts with clip art in any version of Excel.
  • Explore the Recommended Charts feature in Excel 2013 and later.
  • Learn to avoid repetitive formatting by using chart templates and determine where this feature was relocated in Excel 2013 and later.
  • See how the Sparkline feature empowers you to create tiny, in-cell charts for showing trends of data.
  • Summarize complex data sets quickly with Excel's PivotChart feature.
  • Use the SUMIF function to summarize data based on a single criterion.
  • Use the Table feature in Excel 2007 and later to create charts that expand or contract automatically as your source data changes.
