In this webinar, you'll learn about the risks and benefits of tax-advantaged plans such as Roth and Traditional IRAs, HSAs and certain § 401(k) plans. You'll also learn about alternative investment strategies and how to avoid the pitfalls. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
  • Identify the rules and tax ramifications associated with tax-advantaged plans
  • Summarize alternative assets investing within an IRA/HSA
  • Define the meaning of "self-directed," and identify which plans and assets are self-directed
  • Describe the investment process of a self-directed account
  • Compare the risks and advantages of "Checkbook" plans
  • Describe the services provided by non-fiduciary custodians and plan recordkeepers
  • Recognize applicable plan types and code sections
  • List prohibited transactions and disqualified persons
  • Identify case studies, including:
    • Real estate investment
    • Debt financed real estate
    • Private placement
    • Secured and unsecured notes
    • Real estate purchase using LLC or other entity
    • Physical precious metals acquisition

About The Presenters
 
Bill Humphrey, CPA, is as an expert in self-directed IRAs, HSAs, and other tax-advantaged accounts, as well as the IRS codes pertaining to these investments. Mr. Humphrey regularly advises clients on IRA law and the legislation governing tax-advantaged plans. Mr. Humphrey also teaches courses on retirement plan investment rules to investors, CPAs, and investment professionals. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Bradley Burnett, J.D., LL.M., is a practicing Colorado tax attorney with 33 years of tax experience. Mr. Burnett's primary practice is in tax planning and tax controversy resolution. Previously, Mr. Burnett practiced tax accounting with national and local CPA firms, worked as a trust officer for a Denver bank, and managed the tax department as partner in a medium-sized Denver law firm. He is a graduate of the University of Denver School of Law Graduate Tax Program.
