Excel Dashboards: Part 1
February 1st, 2017, 1:00 PM to 2:40 PM, ET
Dashboards empower users to quickly assimilate large amounts of data into spreadsheets by way of pivot tables, charts, and other Excel features. In Part 1 of this two-part webinar series, you'll learn about Excel dashboards and several Excel features that will help you summarize and present your data in an efficient manner. Upon completion of this course, you'll be able to:
  • Identify ways to use Excel dashboards to quickly assimilate large amounts of data
  • Use Microsoft Query to create persistent connections to data you wish to present in a dashboard
  • Create self-updating links to databases, spreadsheets, text files, and other data sources
  • Use the Recommended PivotTables feature
  • Use the Recommended Charts feature in Excel 2013 and later
  • Use Excel's Custom Views feature to make a single set of data serve multiple purposes
  • Switch between Custom Views by way of a hidden drop-down list—and much more
  • Apply the Custom Views feature in Excel to have a single worksheet present data in multiple summary and/or detail formats
  • Establish persistent links to data files exported from your accounting software using Excel's From Text feature
  • Jump-start data visualization with the Quick Analysis feature
  • Learn which features, such as Custom Views, you can't use when one or more tables exist in a workbook
  • Use the Group and Ungroup feature to expand or collapse rows and/or columns

Excel Dashboards: Part 2
February 2nd, 2017, 1:00 PM to 2:40 PM, ET
In Part 2 of this two-part webinar series, you'll learn how to use pivot tables, pivot charts, sparklines, slicers, and other Excel features to present data in summary form while maintaining easy access to the underlying details. Upon completion of this course, you'll be able to:
  • Identify ways to use Excel dashboards to quickly assimilate large amounts of data
  • Define how to create dynamic and interactive graphs with Excel's PivotChart feature
  • Apply the Slicer feature in Excel 2010 and later to filter data faster, streamline data analysis within tables and pivot tables, and control multiple pivot tables and charts instantly
  • Create a dashboard that looks less like an Excel spreadsheet by hiding screen elements
  • Create self-updating titles for charts and pivot charts
  • Differentiate pivot tables from worksheet formulas and learn the importance of the Refresh command
  • Filter pivot table data based on date ranges by way of the Timeline feature in Excel 2013 and later
  • Hide and unhide Excel's Ribbon interface using a simple macro technique
  • Recognize why certain features, including slicers, sparklines, and charts, are disabled in some workbooks
  • Create tiny, in-cell charts to show trends of data using the Sparkline feature
  • Use Excel's PivotTable feature to condense large amounts of information into manageable chunks
  • Use the Linked Picture feature to place pivot tables in close proximity to each other without posing conflicts

David typically demonstrates techniques from the version of Excel used by the majority of attendees. This means he uses Excel 2010, 2013, or 2016 to demonstrate techniques, but his detailed handouts identify differences in Excel 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016 when needed. His webcasts are fast-paced, and attendees often are surprised at the amount of ground he covers in a session. He welcomes participants' questions, so come ready to pick his brain. David's detailed handouts, with numbered steps, serve as reference material you can utilize going forward. He also provides an Excel workbook that includes most of the examples he uses during the webcast.
