In this practical webinar, you'll receive step-by-step guidance on Form 941 and other related forms that lie at the heart of the IRS's employment tax collection system. You'll learn how to navigate employers' tax obligations and reporting requirements under the employment tax rules. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

    • The employment tax return requirement
    • Deposit requirements
    • Due dates and de minimis rules
    • Information reporting requirements
  • Identify methods of withholding
  • Define the concepts of "Employer," "Employee," and "Wages"

  • Distinguish among the forms used for various types of employment taxes
  • File returns electronically
  • Manage special situations such as employee termination and mergers

    • How to correct errors on prior returns and obtain refunds

    • Refund suits and employee notice requirements
    • Interest and penalties
    • Special rules in misclassification situations

Edward James Leyden is the Owner of Leyden Law LLC in Bowie, Maryland. Mr. Leyden regularly counsels clients on taxation and employment issues, and on public policy issues affecting online and interactive media and gaming entities. He is the Chair of the Employment Taxes Committee of the American Bar Association Tax Section. Mr. Leyden is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law and Georgetown University Law Center.

Kurt L.P. Lawson is a Partner at Hogan Lovells US LLP, in Washington, D.C. Mr. Lawson's primary practice is in employment taxes and pensions, health, fringe and other benefits. Mr. Lawson frequently writes and presents on tax and employee benefits matters. Mr. Lawson is the Council director and former chair of the Employee Benefits Committee of the ABA Tax Section. He is a graduate of Yale University and the University of Virginia School of Law.

You'll learn about W-9 documentation and 1099 reporting, establishing the independent contractor relationship with the right documentation, and keeping your organization in compliance and out of trouble with the IRS.
