Course Description

Crank Up Excel: Part 1
December 11th, 1:00 PM to 2:40 PM, ET

In Part 1 of this comprehensive 2-part webinar, Excel expert, David H. Ringstrom, CPA, teaches you how to speed up your work in Excel. Users often spend minutes or hours completing tasks that can be accomplished in a fraction of the time if they know how to use the correct features or techniques. You will learn about a variety of Excel's time-saving features and helpful tips, such as how to filter data faster, streamline repetitive tasks, create keyboard shortcuts, and access folders and workbooks easily.

You will see each technique demonstrated at least twice: first, on a PowerPoint slide with numbered steps, and second, in the subscription-based Office 365 version of Excel. David draws your attention to any differences in the older versions of Excel (2019, 2016, 2013, and earlier) during the presentation, as well as in his detailed handouts. You will also receive an Excel workbook that includes most of the examples used during the webinar.

Office 365 is a subscription-based product that provides new-feature updates as often as monthly. Conversely, the perpetual licensed versions of Excel have feature sets that don't change. Perpetual licensed versions have year numbers, such as Excel 2019, Excel 2016, and so on.

You will learn how to:

  • Use the Table feature to automate formula management within lists.
  • Use the Table feature to improve the integrity of Excel spreadsheets.
  • Identify the pros and cons of merging cells in spreadsheets.
  • Compare Center Across Selection to Merged cells for centering text across two or more columns.
  • Enable a hidden keyboard shortcut for toggling the Freeze Panes feature on or off.
  • Apply different filter settings with just a couple of mouse clicks using the Custom Views feature.
  • Quickly access folders and workbooks, regardless of whether they're stored on your computer or on a network.
  • Streamline filtering of lists in Excel 2013 and later by using the Slicer feature with tables.
  • Simplify repetitive tasks by creating your own keyboard shortcuts.
  • Insert totals into lists with a few mouse clicks by way of Excel's SUBTOTAL function.
  • Monitor how much of your text is being reduced as you try to squeeze more on a page.
  • Leverage Excel's Quick Access Toolbar to create a shortcut that enables you to filter lists with a key stroke instead of multiple mouse actions.

Upon course completion, you will be able to:

  • Apply your own custom keyboard shortcuts.
  • Recognize how to take advantage of hidden menus and features.
  • Identify how to unlock hidden functionality by double-clicking on certain aspects in Excel.

Crank Up Excel: Part 2
December 12th, 1:00 PM to 2:40 PM, ET

In addition, you will learn about the benefits associated with Excel's Text Box feature, the Personal Macro Workbook, and the Quick Analysis feature.
