All tax research can be done online. Ideally, research is performed with both commercial and free resources. This webinar provides tips for effective tax research with an emphasis on free resources from governments and others. This presentation offers tips for finding and using both primary and secondary authorities for research of federal, state and local tax rules. Additionally, this webinar also provides tips on avoiding problems and dead-ends in research. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:
  • List key steps for effective tax research
  • Identify reliable sources for online tax information (both primary and secondary sources)
  • Describe how to best utilize online resources
  • Discuss limitations of using free online resources
  • Identify online tools that help tax practitioners and professionals stay up to date

About The Presenter
 
Annette Nellen, CPA, CGMA, Esq., is the director of San José State University's graduate tax program. Ms. Nellen teaches courses in tax research, accounting methods, property transactions, employment tax, ethics, leadership, and tax policy. She is a member of the AICPA Tax Executive Committee and the Tax Reform Task Force. Ms. Nellen is the author of Bloomberg BNA Tax Portfolio #533, Amortization of Intangibles, and the Bloomberg BNA Internet Law Resource Center's portfolio, Overview of Internet Taxation Issues. She is a graduate of Pepperdine University and Loyola Law School.
