Course Description

In this 2-part webinar, you will learn how to more effectively use Excel's Table, Filter, and Conditional Formatting features.

Filtering and Formatting Excel Data with Ease: Part 1
January 30th, 2019, 1:00 PM to 2:40 PM, ET

If you're an Excel user who is unaware of the Filter feature and you spend a great deal of time sorting data and staving off information overload, you'll want to participate in this webcast. Excel expert, David Ringstrom, CPA, shares a variety of techniques you can use to quickly sift through large amounts of data in Excel. You will learn the difference between the Table and Filter features, how to filter data in pivot tables, and several shortcuts. In addition, you will also learn how to remember filter criteria by way of the Custom Views feature, including the FILTER function that will be rolled out in the Office 365 version of Excel. You will see each technique demonstrated at least twice: first, on a PowerPoint slide with numbered steps, and second, in the subscription-based Office 365 version of Excel. David draws your attention to any differences in the older versions of Excel (2019, 2016, 2013, and earlier) during the presentation, as well as in his detailed handouts. You will also receive an Excel workbook that includes most of the examples used during the webcast. Office 365 is a subscription-based product that provides new-feature updates as often as monthly. Conversely, the perpetual licensed versions of Excel have feature sets that don't change. Perpetual licensed versions have year numbers, such as Excel 2019, Excel 2016, and so on.   You will learn how to:
  • Use the table feature to improve the integrity of Excel spreadsheets
  • Control information overload within pivot charts by filtering
  • Avoid the need to retype data or cumbersome formulas by using Excel's Text to Columns command
  • Simplify repetitive tasks by creating your own keyboard shortcuts
  • Leverage Excel's Quick Access Toolbar to create a shortcut that enables you to filter lists with a key stroke instead of multiple mouse actions
  • Filter based upon two or more conditions with the FILTER function in Office 365
  • Remove the Table feature from Excel spreadsheets once it's no longer needed or simply erase the alternate row shading
  • Filter blank rows within a spreadsheet
  • Create a Top 10 pivot table
  • Use Excel's Advanced Filter feature to identify unique items within a list without discarding duplicates
  • Gain control of long lists of data by filtering instead of sorting
  • Manage multiple pivot tables and charts instantly with the Slicer feature in Excel 2010 and later
Upon course completion, you will be able to:
  • Recall the menu in Excel where the Table feature resides
  • Identify which versions of Excel permit using slicers with both tables and pivot tables
  • Identify the location of the PivotTable command within Excel's ribbon menu interface

Filtering and Formatting Excel Data with Ease: Part 2
January 31st, 2019, 1:00 PM to 2:40 PM, ET

If you're an Excel user who doesn't take advantage of the powerful Conditional Formatting feature, this webcast is perfect for you. In this practical webinar, Excel expert, David Ringstrom, CPA, walks you through a variety of data visualization techniques, including typical stumbling blocks to avoid. You will learn how to color-code worksheet cells based on number or text values, identify duplicate values within a list, add graphics, such as data bars or icons, and create heat maps.
  • Compare two techniques for determining if Conditional Formatting has been applied to a worksheet and, if so, where
  • Format cells based on amounts in a separate column
  • Enliven lists of numbers with the Data Bars conditional formatting
  • Remove Conditional Formatting when it's no longer needed within a spreadsheet
  • Identify cells that contain specific text
  • Use Conditional Formatting to color-code your data, identify duplicates, and apply icons
  • Combine the COUNTIF function with Conditional Formatting to highlight the second and further instances of entries on a list
  • Use the Table feature to improve the integrity of Excel spreadsheets
  • Color-code cells between a range of amounts
  • Jump-start data visualization with the Quick Analysis feature
  • Highlight amounts greater than a specified amount with Conditional Formatting
  • Gain control of long lists of data by filtering instead of sorting
Upon course completion, you will be able to:
  • Identify the Conditional Formatting command that would color-code cells with values within a given range of numbers
  • State which command to choose when right-clicking on a cell to show only cells color-coded by Conditional Formatting
  • Identify the types of data that actions such as row deletions or formatting affect while filtering a worksheet
